LIB Industry Leads Test Chamber Innovation with Eco-Friendly Refrigerants to Meet EU’s New GWP Regulations

The EU’s updated Global Warming Potential (GWP) regulation (EU 2024/537), effective January 1, 2024, mandates a maximum refrigerant GWP of 150 for all industrial equipment entering the EU. This policy accelerates the global shift toward carbon neutrality and challenges the environmental simulation industry to innovate. As a leader in the field, LIB Industry has proactively upgraded its full product line with sustainable refrigerant solutions, ensuring compliance with the EU’s stringent standards.

GWP quantifies a refrigerant’s global warming impact relative to CO₂. Previously common refrigerants like R404A (GWP=3922) and R23 (GWP=14,800) were banned by the EU in 2014 due to high environmental risks. The new 150 GWP cap aligns with the EU’s goal to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 (vs. 1990 levels), pressuring industries to adopt low-carbon alternatives. High-precision test chambers, critical for industries like aerospace and automotive R&D, face urgent upgrades to meet these requirements.

While refrigerants like R449A (GWP=1396) remain legal, their GWP still exceeds the new limit. Others, such as R508B (GWP=13,504), require complex leakage controls for ultra-low-temperature applications. LIB emphasizes that compliance demands more than simple refrigerant swaps—it requires holistic redesigns of cooling systems and energy efficiency optimization.

LIB has engineered innovative refrigerant blends to achieve temperatures below -70°C while slashing energy consumption. Its temperature/humidity chambers and thermal testers already meet the ≤150 GWP threshold, with successful field tests in Europe. The company’s approach balances performance, safety, and sustainability, future-proofing clients against evolving regulations.
