Salt for ASTM B117 Salt Fog Corrosion Test

The salt is used in ASTM B117 salt spray corrosion tests. The test used sodium chloride as a source of salt.


Salt purity: analytically pure or chemically pure sodium chloride, the content of impurities in the salt solution will be as low as possible to avoid interference with the test results.

Concentration of salt solution: concentration of (50±10) g/L or mass percentage of (5%±0.1) %.

The pH value of the salt solution: The pH value of the salt solution before atomization should be between 6.5 and 7.2 (35±2℃).

A 5% concentration of sodium chloride solution is atomized to form a salt spray, and the material or coating sample to be tested is placed in a corrosive environment with high humidity and high salinity. The corrosion resistance of the material or coating is evaluated by observing and measuring the appearance, weight, performance, etc., of the sample before and after the test.
